Finally another DYNAMIX song! Eddie, Tell us about this new release! “Revolution and Rise” with vocals by Detroit ‘s Sensation Miss Michie, has a bit of a funky History ; The recording of the raw session vocals is dating back to 1999 and all of the remixes were produced before the original Dynamix NYC mixes; MISS MICHIE is a well-known Jazz artist known as the “Diva out of bound” in the Jazz industry. She recorded 2 Dynamix written vocals in December 1999. One was the vocal for “Revolution and Rise” and the other was the vocal of the original recording of “Bodyfly” later re-recorded with INDA MATRIX; Miche Braden, aka MISS MICHIE is a product of the rich musical heritage of her hometown Detroit, Michigan, & has worked with many great musical legends including Milt Hinton, Lionel Hampton, The Brubeck Brothers, Regina Carter, James Carter & her hometown mentors Jazz master Harold McKinney & Motown Musicians Earl Van Dyke & Thomas Beans Bowles. Ms. Miche also frequently tours Japan with female jazz saxophonist MASA doing a series of concerts & gospel workshops, & is a featured writer for the Human Rights Coalition of Osaka Japan. She’s also part of a NJ based all Female Gospel Choir headed by non-other than Jazmina. [Of Kult Record’s Jazmina “goodtime” fame]. In a nutshell, Miss Michie rocks all around. Me and Beppe really fell in love with her performance of “Bodyfly” back in 1999 and went on to compile the final vocals and do a DYNAMIX NYC Mix in 2000. “Right around that time “Don’t want another man”” was released and was hot in the Clubs and “Never get me” was about to be dropped as well which caused “Bodyfly” to be just sitting around & but was given to a few top dj’s to test and it leaked & started to do runs on the net and became quite a big song in many Clubs across the Country, especially here in NYC, at Twilo with Junior Vasquez who was in love with the song and her vocals that asked to do his own remixes; The song was big at Juniorverse and she was scheduled to perform before Twilo unexpected shut down and made that impossible. Later on Junior wanted to book her at his new residency at Earth as well. We scheduled it a few times but her busy traveling schedule never made it possible; The fact that she was traveling made ‘Bodyfly” take a back seat with KULT Records on the list of priority despite the buzz, and the label sent us to get hard at work with INDA MATRIX [Zhana Saunders] to record our dominatrix demo “Love Dominates”; While touring to perform ‘love dominates” INDA MATRIX was always getting requests for a second song performance, and so one day a booking Agent who had locked a gig in FL for INDA MATRIX said that the Club promoter had put his foot down for a 2 song show and was trying to get Inda Matrix to perform “Don’t want another man” but we all thought that request was ridiculous including Inda Matrix who refused the proposal so while looking for a fast song to give her we had the smart idea to say, “what a minute” what about this one” bodyfly” ? Upon the first play Inda Matrix loved it and snatched the Tv track on the spot & performed it many times to Miss Michie’s original mix and background vocal before we re-recorded [And kept Miss Michie’s background choruses to back her up] and added the new vocals and new looped chorus; that’s why Inda Matrix did a great job re-singing Bodyfly, she had mastered the song by performing it live many times before recording it and so nailed the vocals on a 2 hours session. So INDA MATRIX took “Bodyfly” on the road and revitalized the song all around taking it across the country along “Love dominates” but some Miss Michie fans never ceased to play the original ‘Bodyfly” and they are going to be the ones to love this new single. So fast-forward to our last effort with Sweet Sensation’s Betty Dee and our Team of great producers/remixers who worked on the project were asking for a new Dynamix project to work on; We were [still are] working on our album and did not have any vocals done at the time to give out yet but we wanted to keep the boys happy so we thought… what about “revolution and rise” raw vocal recordings that have been sitting undone? Mmm…. lest pull that out… So we pulled out the dat and started listening to the various vocal takes for the first time in 3 or 4 years and they sounded great so we just gave all the raw vocal passes out to the various producers. [That means that we gave the many recorded chorus and verses and ad-libs, rather than a “final acapella’ to everyone” to choose for themselves the vocal arrangement]. So this project has been really done backward in the sense that we first got the raw vocal takes recorded on a simple beat & chords. Handed out the raw takes to all of the remixes then after all the versions were handed in by the remixes we produced the final acapella for Dynamix and the Dynamix mixes; I liked to work on this project in this backward fashion for a few reasons; Every remixer was free to choose different vocal options and to structure the vocals as it pleased them so the vocal performance and structure is different in every song. Unlike the other Dynamix releases were every remixer was handed our final structured vocal and used the final vocal, those remixers all had a hand at structuring their own composed performances much more so than in any previous Dynamix release package;Listening to all of the remixes done on the song gave us the freedom to do something different to all of them cause we had in front the totality of the roundness of the project and saw that certain market/sounds had been taken care of by our remixers‘ ability to take the song into their each unique and different direction . I am really impressed by the remixes we got from the Tribal Big Room vocal from the talented Gionfriddo brothers, Simon Digby’s Peak Hour Tribal Dub stomper and Stuart Bridges’s variety of darkened Funky Techno dirt mixes which are my cup of tea & Underdog darker dubs and always welcomed is the old school flava with live key solos of Johan Brunkvist and the minimal underground soul of Conrado Martinez which transform the song into a Soulful minimal and mellow ride; Anyway, back to Miss Michie and to our past Dynamix releases & perfectbeat & Dynamix buyers; Thanks to everyone in advance for your support and thanks to perfectbeat for choosing to do this editorial; We think it’s a great idea that one can find out a bit about the behind the making of a song while shopping at perfectbeat and we are honored to be given this spotlight. We truly appreciate perfectbeats support and their ability to move numbers and the supports of all the buyers who place our stuff on the top of their list. For all of you especially, here in this page is a free download of one of the remixes that did not make it in the package & as a special thanks for your support. Also I hope you'll enjoy the great footage & Video edit George Lyter [ADD-TV] did of Stuart Bridges's breakbeat remix of Revolution and Rise featured in this page as well as a quick photo gallery of performance stills from various live footage of our past releases featuring Betty Dee, Inda Matrix, Nina Eve and Tina Ann on stage at various National & International Events.
